Making a difference to the lives of our horses
Following the Garden Route Fire Crises in 2017, where Kranshoek, a Griqua Settlement in Plettenberg Bay, Horse Owners asked for assistance to evacuate their horses, a team of volunteers helped to move these horses to safety. Once the 10 horses started rehabilitation, we noticed that their Owners lacked the knowledge and resources to care for their horses. The Kranshoek Horses were also facing various challenges ranging from free-roaming issues on neighboring farms, to being used in illegal activities and Bush Racing, and other much more devastating issues such as Foals being injured or hurt by aggressive dogs and being in danger on the Airport Road, where they roamed freely.
With the help of Lee Naude-Plociennik, the Founder of Africa Hoofprint Foundation and the support of those Owners, who wanted to improve the quality of live for their animals, Andrew Hill, owner of Cairnbrogie Farm offered our Project residency on Cairnbrogie Farm. We can now ensure the future of this true Griqua Heritage Horse, and their Young Owners who personally care for, train and ride their horses, with the long-term vision to participate in Equestrian Sport, previously perceived as elitist. The Kranshoek Riders keep breaking new ground and making history for their proud horse heritage. When you ride on a Kranshoek Horse at Cairnbrogie, you are contributing to ensuring their future. Please feel free to visit and meet these unique Horses, only at Cairnbrogie Farm!
